Tamil Rogeon

Honorary Fellow of Melbourne University’s School of Contemporary Music, Tamil Rogeon has composed for the MSO, Orchestra Victoria, The Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO), and the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM). He has also worked with individual artists from across the musical spectrum ranging from Aloe Blacc to The Dandy Warhols. He is a co-founder of the orchestral electronic band The Raah Project and the award-winning Bermuda Harvey Sutherland ensemble.

In 2016 he composed and produced an 80-minute soundtrack to an AFL football match/film. The score was performed live by the MSO at Hamer Hall to a projection of the film, The Draw: A Symphony. In 2017 Rogeon toured Europe extensively, playing festivals such as Glastonbury and Nuits Sonsores (France). In 2018, Rogeon performed 24 Hours In Lapa, a Brazilian electronic-orchestral song cycle at Singapore International Arts Festival.

In 2020, he released Son of Nyx, a modal jazz record that was Jazz FM UK’s and PBS FM’s album of the week, featured on BBC6 and played in high rotation on Australian community radio. Son of Nyx has had more than 180,000 Spotify streams to date.

"Taking inspiration from the cosmic energies embodied within the music of John Coltrane, Yussef Lateef and Pharoah Sanders, Rogeon has successfully incorporated the feel of these legendary musicians into his own modal adventures.” Music Is My Sanctuary
